SKILL BUILDING CAMPS

The Bayou Builders have a mission to share their love for science, technology, engineering and math with other interested elementary and middle-school age children throughout the community. They will often facilitate skill building camps for children ages 9-14 who are interested in learning more about robotics utilizing the EV3 Mindstorms education series.  We have also started facilitating intro to robotics camps for children 5-9.

This summer we are teaming up with FRC Torbotics 2080 to offer 3 different Astro Camps virtually. You can learn more about this experience and register on their website (link on our home page).

The Bayou Builders currently assist in the mentorship of 4 community FIRST LEGO League Explore teams, impacting close to 24 students in grades 2-4.  Since the 2019-2020 FLLJr competition season, these teams will meet at Hammond High Magnet School every Monday from 5-6pm. We will be posting notices soon for anyone interested in joining during the new season.

COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS

We are committed to sharing our experiences with others! During the past year, we have presented at 28 community outreach events in an effort to promote interest in STEM-related activities. Presentations have included local events such as Hot August Nights, Starry November Nights, presentations to local community groups and a demonstration and question/answer session for elementary students at Oaks Montessori School. The team has thoroughly enjoyed getting to assist Greenville Park Leadership Academy over the past year with various STEM events, participating in different local and regional mini maker fairs and presenting at our local libraries and the Girls Scouts BIG STEM Event.
